At only 18-years of age, New Sarepta, Alberta’s Matthew Taskinen started his motorsports career relatively late compared to his peers. Getting behind the wheel of kart in the junior ranks at the age of thirteen, the Exclusive Autosport driver quickly became a champion in both Canada and the United States. Competing on the national karting circuit in several of the elite karting series across North America, the now F1600 driver developed a reputation of being fast and aggressive, yet calculated, in his quest for race wins and podium results. Always a threat week in and week out, Taskinen continued his prowess as he moved into open wheel racing scoring three wins and four podiums in only fourteen race starts.
Now, with a year under his belt and experience to challenge for championships, the multi-sport athlete has entered both the Toyo Tire F1600 Championship Series and F1600 Canada programs as he begins his march up the motorsports ladder.
With his ultimate goal to compete in the Verizon IndyCar Series, Taskinen progresses through the 2018 season with support from Venables Machine Works, Hub International and Snubco Pressure Control. As fast as he in on the track and as marketable as he is off of it, Taskinen is also a brand ambassador for his marketing partners and uses his passion of motorsports to help promote their products and services.
Matthew has signed on to join the Belgium AC Motorsport team in their efforts to win the 24 Hours of Dubai, taking place on January 9-11 at Dubai Autodrome. The Team is coming off a runners up performance in 2019 and are looking to kick off the 2020 Season with a win.
Team AC Motorsport achieved a podium finish in the TCE class at the end of the 24H Series. Stéphane Perrin, Vincent Radermecker, Matthew Taskinen and William Neal in an Audi RS 3 LMS finished runners-up in this mixed touring car classification for TCR and Cup cars after 24 hours at Austin. As a result, the Belgian fielding team, AC Motorsport, finished the teams’ classification in the runner-up’s spot
